⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Le Sant-Sauvaire vivaro-alpin, traduit en français, est devenu un Saint-Sauveur, toponyme courant en France.

Notre Saint-Sauveur haut-alpin est attesté dans le cartulaire de l'abbaye de Valbonne en 1321 sous sa forme latine Santus Salvator. Il est à noter que les moines et autres copistes spécifient bien sa localisation dans la forêt d'Embrun.

La commune doit donc son nom à un sanctuaire présent dans ce qui était alors forêt d'Embrun.
