Le Bono dérive du breton Ar Bonoù.

Certains lient ce toponyme au nom des jardinets du village: Bon - prononcer bonne - Bonoù au pluriel, substantif masculin, signifie borne, bornes et, sans doute, est-il possible de trouver là le sens de ce toponyme. Nous pourrons aussi faire un rapprochement avec Ambon, autre commune du Morbihan.

Ar Bonoù - Le Bono apparaît très tardivement dans les écrits car nous n'en trouvons trace qu'en 1815 sous sa forme actuelle qui perdure jusqu'à ce jour. Notez que les locaux disent Bono et pas Le Bono ; vous allez donc à Bono.
