La Chapelle-Gaceline, en breton Ar Chapel-Wagelin, est probablement la chapelle privée d'une dame ou demoiselle Gaceline - prénom du Moyen-Âge - qui est signalée dans le Cartulaire de Redon en 1029 sous la forme Uuaceline.

Il existe peu de formes anciennes pour ce toponyme de Bretagne. Nous voyons un La Chapelle Gasceline en 1340 puis un La Chapelle Gasseline en 1740.
