Saint-Guyomard, en breton Sant-Gwioñvarc'h, tire son nom du saint éponyme. La vie de Saint Guyomard, s'il a existé, nous est totalement inconnue ; nous ne doutons par contre point qu'elle fut chargée de hauts et extraordinaires faits en tous genres.

Ce toponyme est cité pour la première fois attestée dans les archives du château de Kerfily en 1542 ; nous l'y retrouvons sous la forme Saint Dyomar. Cette citation est la seule retrouvée et apparaissant dans les documents anciens.
