Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys: Début XX°: Le petit port de Saint Gildas

⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Le Lokentaz breton est devenu Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys en français et s'est aussi vu appeler Abeilart pendant et après la Révolution de 1789 puis revient à un Saint Gildas dès 1815.

Les anciennes archives nous dévoilent un Sancti Gildasii en 1037 puis Saint Guidas en 1265. D'autres formes toponymiques anciennes sont visibles comme Saint Guidas de Rieux au XIII° siècle que nous revoons en 1304 avec un Saint Guidas de Reuiz puis Saint Guidas de Revis cette même année ; ceci pour ne citer que quelques toponymes anciens.

Cette commune se doit à Saint-Gildas qui, vers 530, fonda un monastère placé sous les règles de Saint-Benoît. Ruiné par les normands, le monastère fut relevé de ses cendres par Saint Félix sous les bons auspices de Geffroy I°, duc de Bretagne.
