Le Bersac, en vivaro-alpin Lo Bersac, est attesté pour la première fois connue dans les écrits en 1203 ; il se retrouve sous la forme Barzas, Barzanum dans le cartulaire de l'Abbaye de Durbon.

D'après certains auteurs, Le Bersac proviendrait de l'anthroponyme Bersius.
