Ce toponyme composé provient de la famille de La Chapelle pour sa première partie.

Quant à Caro, en breton Karozh, il est donné pour avoir le sens de Karv, ar c'harv - substantif masculin prononcé Karo - et signifiant le cerf. Ce sens se retrouve signifié dans les armoiries de la commune. La Chapelle permettait de différencier les terres de cette seigneurie de celles de Karozh - Caro.

Nous n'avons retrouvé aucune forme ancienne pour ce toponyme.
