⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

L'an 1081 voit l'apparition d'un Rupes Cletguen dans le cartulaire de Landévennec ; Kledenn-Poc'hêr, qui sera francisé en Cléden-Poher. Plusieurs formes anciennes émaillent les siècles et nous pourrons retrouver - encore en 1081, un Clerguenn suivi d'un Cleven en 1108. Alors que l'année 1260 nous présente un Rogcleufen, l'année 1288 nous offre un Rescleguen. Le XIII° siècle nous présentera un Clezguen puis un Cletguin Pochaer en 1330. Remarquons les Clerguen Pochaer de 1516, 1536, 1574 qui font suite au Cletguen Pocher de 1368. La forme toponymique ancienne de 1630 est à remarquer avec ce Cleduan informatif quand à la prononciation. le XVII° siècle nous découvre un Cledent en 1636 et Cleduen en 1654.

Ce toponyme ne dériverait pas de Saint Clet, pape du I° siècle, mais de Clydwin, fils aîné de Brychan Brycheiniog et frère de Saint Tudful, roi et saint gallois du VI° siècle ; le -Poc'hêr = -Poher servant à différencier ce lieu de Cléden-Cap-Sizun - Kledenn-ar-C'hab.
