Zegerscappel, en flamand Zegerskappel, est attesté sur une charte du XII° siècle sous la forme latine Fanum Sigeri.

Ce document, daté de l'an 1186, voit Guillaume et sa femme, châtelains de Saint-Omer, céder aux moines une part de leurs taxes levées sur les vins. Il est contresigné par un certain Gislebert de Zegercappel.
