■ Spincourt: Le Monument aux Morts

Le Monument aux Morts de Spincourt fut inauguré le 26 septembre 1926 en présence de M. Magny, préfet de la Meuse. L'inauguration débuta en musique à 8 heures du matin avec la Fraternelle de Talange. À 9 heures, l'assemblée participa à une messe dite en l'honneur des Morts de la Grande Guerre, encore si fraîche dans les mémoires ; le monument fut bénit par le curé de la paroisse. À 10h45, le monument fut officiellement remsi à la municipalité par l'Association des Anciens Combattants puis, à 11h30, les autorités, personnalités et invités furent accueillies place de la gare.

Toute l'assemblée, accompagnée par la musique, se rendit alors au Monument aux Morts de Spincourt pour l'inaugurer. Un concert fut donné sur la place de l'Église par la Fraternelle de Talange ; elle termina cette émouvante cérémonie.

Les Monuments aux Morts rappellent les soldats morts pour le pays lors des derniers conflits. C'est la guerre franco-prussienne de 1870-1871 qui verront apparaître les premiers Monuments aux Morts du pays.

Toutes les communes de France ou presque voient leur monument édifié après la guerre de 1914-1918. L'épitaphe la plus courante est Morts pour la France sauf l'Alsace-Lorraine qui grave un Morts à la Guerre bien compréhensif.

Les Monuments aux Morts sont souvent oubliés lors de nos visites ; pourtant ils sont tranche d'Histoire importante et douloureux rappel des folies humaines.
