⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Menton - idem en provençal - se retrouve dans les archives dès 1262 sous la forme latine de Mentonum.

Semblant d'origine ligure - du nom des populations habitant la région avant les celtes, ce toponyme signifierait petite colline d'après certains toponymistes dont Charles Rostaing.

La morphologie des lieux expliquerait ce toponyme, sans doute un colline assez caractéristique pour servir de repère dans cet univers plutôt montagneux.
