⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

le Loprevaler breton se vit francisé en Loc-Brévalaire et nous retrouvons ce toponyme en l'an 1467 avec un Loprevalarz très proche de la forme bretonne. Les années suivantes nous laisseront voir un Loc Brevalazre pour l'année 1516, suivi d'un Locprevalazre en 1664 puis en 1680 d'un Locprevalayre alors que l'an 1715 nous offre un Lopravalaire.

Ce toponyme dérive du Loc-, lok-, forme dérivant du mot latin Locus - chapelle, prieuré. En breton, un ermitagge est défini par le mot Peniti.

Brevaler - Brévalaire, mais aussi trouvé en Brewalar, Branwalaar, Brelade, Broladre est l'anthroponyme d'un compagnon de Saint Sezni arrivé au VI° siècle depuis l'île de Jersey où il aurait été évêque.
