La Saulce, en occitan haut-alpin La Salça est attestée pour la première fois connue dans les écrits en 1215. Nous retrouverons ce toponymme avec un La Salsa en 1215 puis in La Saulce dès en 1516

Ce toponyme se retrouve dans les archives de l'abbaye de Durbon sous la forme latine La Salsa et rappelle l'existence d'une source d'eau salée maintenant disparue.
