La Faurie, en vivaro-alpin La Fauria, apparaît pour la première fois connue en 1176 dans le Cartulaire de l'Abbaye de Durbon sous la forme Las Fauréas.

La forme Fabrice, que l'on retrouve en 1416, explique ce toponyme qui, en français, se traduirait par La Fabrique; sans doute une forge ou espace lié au travail du métal, Fauria désignant toujours une forge en occitan.
