Anizy-le-Château, Anizy-la-Rivière pendant la Révolution de 1789, voyait la présence d'un château remarquable qui, partiellement détruit pendant la révolution de 1789, sera totalement rasé lors du premier conflit mondial de 1914-1918.

Le VII° siècle verra apparaître un Villa quae dicitur Anisiacus puis un Anisi en 1132. L'an 1139 verra de-même un Anisiacum, avec un Anisiacum in Laudunesio en 1329.

Ce toponyme dérive probablement du cognonem latin Anisius.
