Aigues-Vives, en occitan Aigas Vivas, est attesté en l'an 988 avec un Villa Aquaviva qui nous informe, en ces temps reculés, de l'existence d'une villa gallo-romaine qui deviendra château attesté en 1247 avec un Castrum de Aquaviva. Aigues-Vives rappelle qu'une source aux eaux jaillissantes se situait en ces lieux et devait être assez caractéristique pour donner nom à l'endroit.
