⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Aiglun, idem en provençal, se retrouve cité en 1039 dans les cartulaires de l'abbaye de Saint Victor de Marseille. Nous retrouvons ce toponyme en Aigledunum au XIII° siècle. Cette forme est intéressante et nous informe de l'origine celtique de ce mot avec un -dun caractérisant un espace fortifié, citadelle située sur une hauteur plus ou moins élevée.

Tout comme son homonyme des Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, le radical dériverait du mot latin Aquila - l'aigle mais nous ne pourrons affirmer que cela est la traduction latine du mot gaulois Er - aigle que l'on retrouve toujours très proche avec le breton Erer.
