⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Abidos, en béarnais Avidòs, est attesté au XI° siècle sous la forme Avitos. Nous le retrouvons au XIII° siècle avec un Avidoos. Notons les formes Bidos, Bydos que l'on retrouve en 1548 dans la réformation du Béarn. M. Grosclaude fait dériver ce toponyme d'un anthroponyme latin Avitus suffixé d'-ossum obscur. Peut-être le domaine d'Avitus, mais avec beaucoup de réserves.
