■ Surprenant nouveau-né

Le 1° novembre 1803, la femme d'un cultivateur de Sigale accouchait d'un enfant qui ne vécut qu'une demi-heure.

De sexe féminin, le nouveau-né était doté d'une conformation si surprenante qu'une mission de santé vint de Nice et dressa procès-verbal.

L'enfant fut décrit comme n'ayant pas de cou ou de nez mais un œil quadrangulaire et de la taille d'un oeil adulte...

Année 1770: Enfant monstrueux

Le 1° novembre 1803, la femme d'un cultivateur de Sigale accouchait d'un enfant qui ne vécut qu'une demi-heure. De sexe féminin, le nouveau-né était doté d'une conformation si surprenante qu'une mission de santé vint de Nice et dressa procès-verbal.

L'enfant fut décrit comme n'ayant pas de cou. La tête était directement attachée au thorax ; elle était d'ailleurs directement posée sur le thorax, au niveau de la poitrine, en position horizontale et dirigée vers le haut. La face de l'enfant était aplatie et ne présentait quasiment pas de menton. La bouche est signalée comme horrible, large, ouverte, et faisant plus de trois travers de doigts ; ce qui est réellement impressionnant pour un nouveau-né.

Le nouveau-né n'a pas de nez rapporte le procès-verbal. À sa place, il y a un œil qui n'est pas rond mais quadrangulaire et de la taille d'un oeil ordinaire adulte. Cet œil est entouré de quatre paupières, très mobiles, comme celles d'un reptile. Sa prunelle est d'un bleu vermeil, particulièrement brillant ; la conjonctive est plutôt rouge.

Au-dessus de cet œil unique, se trouvait un corps charnu, élevé et parfaitement droit, large comme deux doigts. Le front de ce nouveau-né était inexistant.

De chaque côté de ce visage thoracique sont positionnées une petite oreille, très petite, moins d'un pouce.

L'enfant à deux jambes et deux bras.

Le procès-verbal de cette naissance fut consigné par la mission de santé venue spécialement de Nice et publié dans le journal de la ville.
