Datée du XI° siècle, voyant des ajouts, l'église Saint-Pantaléon est une perle. Romane, gracieuse, élégante, elle est classée Monument Historique en 1907, et dotée de trois absides, avec sa nef plus large que longue. Des marques de tailleurs sont visibles sur certains moellons et, fait remarquable, l'abside centrale est pour partie taillée directement dans la roche, témoignant d'un relief originel plus élevé. Nous nous sommes demandés pourquoi ce lieu précis voit édifier une église alors qu'il était plus aisé de construire à côté. Est-ce la Christianisation d'un lieu de culte pré-chrétien ?

La commune est petite mais perdit sept de ses enfants lors du premier conflit mondial. Une simple plaque de marbre rappelle à nos mémoires les vies sacrifiées de ces jeunes hommes sur l'autel des orgueils humains et nationaux. En 1911, la commune comptait 88 habitants ; perdre sept jeunes hommes eut des répercussions lourdes et amplifièrent un exode rural déja bien réel.
Gardons mémoire et respect à ces hommes.
Tombes rupestres

L'église est ceinturée de tombes rupestres ; vous en voyez près du clocher mais aussi, à l'arrière du bâtiment, taillées sur le relief rocheux. Saint-Pantaléon fut Sanctuaire de Répit. Vers le XI°-XII° siècle, les enfants mort-nés étaient déposés en ce lieu puis, le temps d'une messe, étaient considérés vivants et baptisés ; cela leur ouvrant les Portes du Ciel. Nous pouvons nous poser la question de savoir pourquoi ce lieu fut ainsi utilisé. Les religions nouvelles se superposant sur de plus anciennes, nous pouvons nous demander si cela n'est pas le cas ici ; le site, particulier, ayant pu y voir des cultes pré-chrétiens pratiqués.
