La tour du XII° en 1893

On arrive à Lorrez-le-Bocage, vieux village avec des débris d'anciens remparts, une tour du XII° siècle, une Crypte et une église du XIII° siècle fort pittoresquement située. C'est là que l'on rencontre l'unique chemin de fer de toute la vallée, et qu'il faut descendre pour visiter la vallée supérieure du Lunain.

À cet endroit même, le Lunain recevait il y a encore quelque trente ans un gros affluent qui a disparu, depuis que l'on a inconsidérément déboisé la contrée ; le chemin de fer emprunte même une partie de son lit. Au sortir de Lorrez, changement complet : la vallée se reboise et s'accidente. Les grès de Fontainebleau montrent leurs masses pittoresques et le sapin donne au paysage sa teinte caractéristique.

Des sources superbes sortent du sol, et l'une d'elles, dite la Fontaine de Jean des Neiges, est l'une de celles qui tentent le plus. On rencontre sur une vingtaine d'autres sources dans les environs.
