L'instant est solennel et la lande s'éclaire,
Le Breton est fidèle, et meurt pour son pays !
Les feux sont allumés, et nos yeux éblouis
Contemplent l'horizon et la sombre bruyère.

Ils sont là, ces Bretons, à genoux sur la pierre,
L'angélus a sonné... — les gars sont réunis,
Et courbés lentement, ni le froid de leurs nuits
Ni le tambour lointain n'arrêtent leur prière.

Elle est courte, elle est bonne et faite avec leurs cœurs,
Et relevés bientôt, les fiers gardiens des Sœurs
Reprennent sans un mot le chemin du village !...

Groupés, silencieux, pensant à leurs enfants,
Leurs regards humbles, doux, aux rayons triomphants
Appellent les combats, la victoire ou l'orage !
