Crée en 1888 pour amener le charbon des mines du plateau mathéysin vers Grenoble, la ligne de La Mure remplaça les trains muletiers qui assuraient ce service depuis toujours.
D'une grande hardiesse, cette ligne reste une des plus belles, si ce n'est la plus belle ligne ferroviaire d'Europe. N'hésitez pas à l'emprunter au départ de Saint-Georges-de-Commiers et éffectuez un voyage sans pareil dans des voitures datant des années trente.
Une balade ferroviaire incontournable.
