■ Châteauredon: Le Monument aux Morts

Châteauredon voit son marbre mémoriel à l'intérieur de l'église paroissiale, église bien charmante d'ailleurs. Les huit noms gravés sur le tableau furent énorme perte pour cette petite commune des Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

Sur le mur intérieur de l'église, une plaque ornée d'un stuc accosté de deux pilastres comporte les noms des sacrifiés sur l'autel de la Patrie. Un des pilastres voit un poilu montant la garde, arme au pied ; l'autre pilastre porte un gaulois en arme, épée pointe au sol, mais prêt au combat. Sous la liste des noms, un aumônier militaire porte secours et apporte les derniers sacrements à un blessé allongé ; ils paieront un lourd tribut à la guerre.

Cette plaque mémorielle est paroissiale ; une autre plaque, plus sobre, est à l'intérieure de la mairie.

Les Monuments aux Morts rappellent les soldats morts pour le pays lors des derniers conflits. C'est la guerre franco-prussienne de 1870-1871 qui verront apparaître les premiers Monuments aux Morts du pays.

Toutes les communes de France ou presque voient leur monument édifié après la guerre de 1914-1918. L'épitaphe la plus courante est Morts pour la France sauf l'Alsace-Lorraine qui grave un Morts à la Guerre bien compréhensif.

Les Monuments aux Morts sont souvent oubliés lors de nos visites ; pourtant ils sont tranche d'Histoire importante et douloureux rappel des folies humaines.
