Béard-Géovreissiat est né de la fusion de deux paroisses, celle de Géovreissiat et celle de Saint-Germain-de-Béard.

Nous trouvons Saint-Germain-de-Béard en 1419 avec une Via Publica tendes de Ysernoro versus Sanctum Germanum de Beart. Attesté en 1210 sous la forme Gevressia, Géovreissiat se retrouve en 1211 sous la forme Gevreyssiacus et semble dériver d'un anthroponyme germanique Gebricus.
