■ La Bâtie-Vieille: Le Monument aux Morts

Surmonté d'une croix, la stèle consacrée aux enfants de La Bâtie-Vieille morts lors du premier conflit mondial est encastrée dans le mur de l'église paroissiale.

Simple marbre surmonté d'une croix soutenue de l'épitaphe. Une Croix de Guerre est accostée des textes Honneur - Patrie et des dates 1914 - 1919, année qui verra Adrien Eyraud décéder d'une insuffisance aortique liée à la guerre ; cela nous invite à ne pas oublier que bien des hommes rentrés après les combats vont mourir des suites de leurs blessures ou du gaz les menant lentement et douloureusement au tombeau.

Ce marbre mémoriel de La Bâtie-Vieille le rappelle à nos mémoires.

Les Monuments aux Morts rappellent les soldats morts pour le pays lors des derniers conflits. C'est la guerre franco-prussienne de 1870-1871 qui verront apparaître les premiers Monuments aux Morts du pays.

Toutes les communes de France ou presque voient leur monument édifié après la guerre de 1914-1918. L'épitaphe la plus courante est Morts pour la France sauf l'Alsace-Lorraine qui grave un Morts à la Guerre bien compréhensif.

Les Monuments aux Morts sont souvent oubliés lors de nos visites ; pourtant ils sont tranche d'Histoire importante et douloureux rappel des folies humaines.
