⌘ Étymologies et toponymes

Ahaxe-Alciette-Bascassan est la francisation du basque Ahatsa-Altzieta-Bazkazane.
Ahaxe se retrouve en 1302 dans une charte du chapitre de Bayonne sous la forme Ahaxa. puis, en 1703, sous la forme Ahtxe. Ce toponyme dérive du basque Ahaiz rappelant une hauteur.
Alciette se retrouve attesté en 1302 dans les archives du chapître de Bayonne sous une forme française avec un La Grange d'Alsuette. Nous étions en 1302. 1513 voit un Alzueta dans les archives du chapître de Pampelune. Ce toponyme dérive du basque Altzueta désignant une Aulnaie.
Bascassan se retrouve en 1513 dans les archives du chapître de Pampelune sous la forme Bazcacen puis Vazcacen en 1621; ce toponyme désignant quelques amas rocheux sur un lieu herbagé.
Alciette et Bascassan ont été réunis à Ahaxe le 11 juin 1842.
